Last month, Main Stage Rehearsal Studios proudly opened its doors as part of Doors Open Hamilton 2026, celebrating this year’s “Forged in Sound” theme and Hamilton’s Year of Music following the 2026 JUNO Awards.
To be honest, we almost didn’t do it.

Running a 35,000 sq ft music facility with a lean team is already a challenge on a normal day. Opening every corner of the building to the public meant thinking about security, staffing, gear protection, crowd flow, and preparing spaces that are usually filled with musicians hard work behind closed doors. There were definitely moments where we wondered if we were crazy for saying yes.

But after welcoming 243 visitors through the building over two days, we can honestly say we’re so glad we did.
What surprised us the most wasn’t just how many people came from Hamilton and Toronto — it was the stories they brought with them.

Throughout the weekend, countless visitors stopped us during the tours to share memories of the building’s past life as Robert’s Restaurant and Festival Banquet Centre.
“My grandparents got married here.”
“My parents had their wedding reception here.”
“I used to play with my band here.”
“I can’t believe this is what the building became.”
Those conversations hit us deeply. Before Main Stage became Ontario’s largest rehearsal studio and creative hub, this building was already a place where people gathered, celebrated milestones, and created memories. In many ways, it still is — just through music now.

Guests toured the entire facility with our team, including Justin, Jack, and Charles, exploring rehearsal studios, podcast rooms, recording and production spaces, our live-off-the-floor recording room, dance studio, content creation spaces, and the Showcase Room used for concerts, release parties, rehearsals, and live events.
For many visitors, it was their first time stepping inside a professional music facility of this scale. People constantly told us they drive by the building every day without realizing what was happening inside.

And honestly, seeing the building through their eyes reminded us not to take this place for granted. One of the most special moments was simply hearing the sound of music spilling out from different studios all at once while tour groups walked the halls. Guests would stop outside doors, smiling and listening, asking questions like:
“How long does it take to make an album?”
“Who has jammed here before?”
“I can really rent this whole room (showcase room) for my party?”
Some visitors were shocked to learn that nationally touring bands, local artists, metal bands preparing for Wacken Metal Battle, singer-songwriters, church groups, podcasters, dancers, and even businesses all use the same building in different ways throughout the week.

Others were fascinated by the gear, the murals, the scale of the studios, and the behind-the-scenes process that goes into live music before audiences ever see a performance on stage.
As a team, we work in these studios every day, so sometimes we forget how unique this environment really is. Doors Open Hamilton reminded us that what feels normal to us can feel inspiring and eye-opening to someone seeing it for the first time.
